The shipping industry across the globe is a growing source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to climate change. According to the International Maritime Organization greenhouse gas report, Maritime transport emits around 940 million tonnes of CO2 annually and is responsible for about 2.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
